Master Key Experience – Week 16 – “Makeover à la Franklin (2nd week)…

This week marks the second week of implementation in our Master Mind group of the Ben Franklin makeover. For this week I was focusing on KINDNESS, as well as the whole 2018-2019 group of members of the MKMMA.

We are taking an idea created more than 300 years ago by Benjamin Franklin, one of our founding fathers, master inventor: He was also a pioneer of self-improvement. In 1727 Franklin formed the Junto, a weekly mutual-improvement club made up of individuals with an array of interests and skills. Any similarities with actual events and/or with our Master Key Master Mind Alliance is purely coincidental, like they say in the movies and books disclaimers.

Being a moral pragmatist, Ben Franklin created a list of 13 virtues, and created a chart on which to keep track of his progress in living them. Each week he would specifically focus on one virtue while also keeping track of the others. He would then move on to the next virtue and so on, eventually going through four cycles of each of the virtues in a single year.

When he failed to live up to the virtues on a particular day, he would place a mark on the chart. When Franklin first started out on his program, he found himself putting marks in the book more often than he wanted. But as time went by, he saw the marks diminish.

For our application we are taking a positive approach, instead of putting a mark every time with fail to exercise the virtue we are focusing on observing others and ourselves perform acts that inherently develop or increase the virtue itself. For this week, the virtue was kindness, as I mentioned earlier in the post. By focusing only on acts of kindness (done by others or ourselves) we are “kicking up the notch” of the Law of Growth, whatever we think about or focus on multiplies.

This was an amazing week, I was able to witness people being kind all over the place, everywhere I went. It doesn’t mean that there was no kindness before, just that I was not focused and paying attention to it. I was also able to be kind to others, and do things for love ones, and strangers, without the “expectation of reciprocity”.

I am deeply grateful, to be able to be intentional about seeking to do go and observe the good around me.  The second promise of my Giving Card says: “I promise to be a grateful receiver of the gifts that surround me, pausing often to notice nature, kindnesses, smiles and compliments, all of which I gladly receive with a THANK YOU!”.

Please note, that the more you, anyone, or myself focus on being kind to others, more kindness comes into our lives. “You Get To Receive What You Give”.

I am truly blessed, and so glad to further develop, nurture and enrich something that has been always part of my identity.

I always keep my promises

Manuel Madera
